Botanical: Achillea millefolium (Yarrow)

Botanical:  Achillea millefolium (Yarrow)
Parts used: Aerial Parts
Constituents: Sesquiterpene lactones, volatile oil, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolic acids, coumarins
Actions:  Diaphoretic, hypotensive, astringent, anti inflammatory, anti spasmodic, diuretic, antimicrobial, bitter, hepatic. 
Indications:  stong diaphoretic for helping body reduce fever.  Stimulates digestion and tones blood vessels.  As a urinary tract antiseptic.  Considered a specific herb in thrombotic conditions associated with hypertension, and is thought to lower blood pressure through dilation of peripheral vessels.  Externally used for wound healing
C/I:  use caution during pregnancy and anticoagulant therapies
Adverse Effects:  volatile oils and whole plant are toxic.  Generally safe herb.  Possible symptoms of overdose includes convulsions.
Dosing: tincture 2-4ml (1:5 in 25%) TID, 2-4g of dried herb,  1-2ml fluid extract
Interactions: proton pump inhibitors because yarrow can increase hcl production.
